A youth has been sentenced to one year in jail by a Delhi court for outraging the modesty of a 21-year-old girl, a journalism graduate working with an NGO. Additional sessions judge Yogesh Khanna handed down the jail term to convict Vinay Kumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh, who was facing trial for kidnapping, assaulting and for making a gesture with intention to insult the modesty of a woman.
The court, however, acquitted 25-year-old Vinay of kidnapping. ‘Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, I feel that the ends of justice shall suffice if convict Vinay is sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for the offence... for one year,’ the court said, which also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict.
