High security in the jail has been arranged for by jail authorities.
Delhi court sent Bhatkal to judicial custody for seven days. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for 17 January. Advocate MS Khan, Bhatkal’s counsel, said, ‘Several times I have opposed the police’s plea by saying that Bhatkal has been in police custody for a long time. Finally, he is free from all police remand.’
Speaking to Millennium Post, Sunil Gupta, spokesperson for Tihar said, ‘Keeping in mind the sensitivity of the Bhatkal case, we have kept him in Jail No. 4, which is the most secure jail. We keep the most vulnerable accused in this jail. Despite a default high-security in his ward, a special team has been prepared to keep a close eye on him.’
Bhatkal who was arrested by NIA in August 2013 from Indo-Nepal border was wanted in Delhi for several terror cases including Jama Masjid attack. He had carried out several terror attacks in India claiming over 150 lives. Bhatkal undertook arms and explosive training in Pakistan in 2006 to launch terror attacks. Till 2010, he was living in south-east Delhi’s Shaheenbagh area. Sources said, ‘From late 2011, Bhatkal has allegedly not participated in any terror strike in India.’
SN Srivastava, special police commissioner (special cell) said, ‘We are done with Bhatkal’s interrogation. So far our investigative team is satisfied with all his revelations. There is no point in keeping him in police custody at Special Cell headquarters in Lodhi Colony.’
