In order to break the deadlock over compensation on land acquired by the Yamuna Authority, District Magistrates of six districts and chairman and CEO of Yamuna Authority, held a meeting on Friday. Developers were also involved in the deliberations.
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has been involved in a row with farmers from over 30 villages over the compensation settlement. For the last two years, farmers have demanded an additional compensation of 64.7%. Since the Authority does not have sufficient funds to pay the additional compensation, the row has only worsened. Now authority officials have decided to fulfill the farmer’s demand. However, they are still working on arranging funds to the tune of Rs 6100 crore, which will be used as compensation.
The deadlock has not just hit the development of societies by private developers, under YEIDA, but it has also adversely impacted development of five other districts, namely Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, Hathras and Bulandshara on the Yamuna Expressway stretch.
PC Gupta, YEIDA CEO said that while they are ready to accept the farmers’ demands, they are worried about arranging this huge sum since the authority is not in a situation to bear the extra burden. ‘The officials wanted to know our decision on the farmers’ row. We have ensured them that we will agree to their demand but we have to ask institutions, developers and allotees to raise funds, so that the farmers eligible for the compensation can be paid,’ Gupta said.
He added that a report will be prepared within a week and will be sent to UP cabinet minister Rajendra Chaudhary for consideration. Once he approves the proposal, the report would be sent to CM Akhilesh Yadav to take final call. Nearly 21,000 allotees have been affected because of the row.
