In an attempt to promote khadi, the Centre is all set to unveil world’s largest wooden Charkha (spinning wheel) on Tuesday. The charkha, which has been installed by Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC) at T-3 at IGI Airport, has been made by an Ahmedabad KVIC unit. According to a KVIC official, the four-tonne Charkha made from high-quality teak wood, which is estimated to last for over 50 years, was built by around 26 workers and carpenters who completed it in 40 days. “It was the initiative of KVIC Chairman VK Saxena who decided to install the world’s largest charkha at the international airport in Delhi to showcase India’s symbol of non-violence to the world through the airport where around 2,50,000 people/tourists visit every day,” the official said, adding that it would be unveiled by Bhartiya Janata Party president Amit Shah.
