Kolkata: Posing as patients, senior officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday arrested a fake dentist from Barasat in North 24 Parganas.
The accused has been identified as Prince Basu Mullick (32). Acting on a specific information, a team of CID officers raided his chamber on Tuesday morning.
A probe was initiated by the CID after the Dental Council of India lodged a complaint with the police.
Police have already arrested few fake dentists in this connection so far.
After carrying out a probe, the CID came to know that Mullick had been running a chamber at Helabattala area of Barasat for quite sometime.
A four-member team of the CID on Tuesday visited his chamber when Mullick was treating patients.
The CID officers asked him to show the certificates that established that he had a valid degree.
They also asked for his registration number. The accused showed a registration number to the CID officers.
According to the CID, the registration number produced by the accused was invalid.
The investigators then arrested the accused for practicing without a valid license.
They said that there were some modern electronic gadgets in his chamber which were used by the accused.
Police said that all the papers shown by the accused were found to be false.
Police also interrogated the accused of some additional information relating to the case.
Mullick used to claim himself to be a Bachelor of Dental surgery as it was mentioned on his prescription but in reality he did not have a single document in support of his view. Police have also seized the chamber of the accused.
The DCI prepared a list of fake dentists in the North 24 Parganas district and handed it over to the CID for the sake of investigation. The accused will be produced before the Barasat District Court on Wednesday.
