Woman’s body found with throat slit

Mystery shrouds the death of a 35-year-old housewife whose body with her throat slit was recovered from a paddy field at Debidaspur in Behrampur on Sunday morning, police said.

However, police suspect that the victim Mamina Bibi was raped and murdered. Investigation revealed that the victim, who got married to Rafique Sheikh eight-year-ago, used to work in an eatery near Behrampore station. 

She is survived by a 5-year-old son. On Saturday she left for her home at Bazarpara as her son was ill. But she went missing on her way. 

Her family members searched for her almost everywhere but they failed to find her. Police suspect after preliminary investigation that she was kidnapped and taken to some other place, where she was raped and then murdered as she had threatened them of lodging a complaint with the police. 

On Sunday morning, some local people saw her body lying in a pool of blood near Debidaspur Primary School. After knowing that a body was found, her family members rushed to the spot and identified her body. Later police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. 

A police officer said investigation revealed that the victim often used to quarrel with her husband. Police have questioned some youth from the villages in the area, but they are yet to arrest anyone in this connection. The investigating officers have interrogated some employees of the eatery where she used to work. But they failed to tell the police whether she had rivalry with anyone.  

The weapon with which she was murdered was also not found. Police, however, claimed that someone well known to the victim was involved in the crime and the person had kept a watch on her movement for the past few days.
