The family of the woman lodged a complaint with Topsia police station against her husband and in-laws. Police have arrested the accused husband, and his parents.
22-year-old Farah Begum, a resident of Tilzala Road, was admitted to the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMCH) on Sunday night.
In a complaint to the police, Farah’s family alleged that her husband and in-laws had pressured her to commit suicide by setting herself on fire.
Police have initiated an abetment to suicide case against the accused.Police said that Farah Begum was married to a local resident Sheikh Gulzar for six years and had a harsh life throughout.
The mother of two was often beaten up by her husband and in-laws. They demanded dowry money and property from her. Farah’s efforts to make peace with her in-laws had gone in vein as the physical and mental trauma kept increasing eventually.
On Sunday, she ended up taking the near fatal decision after a brawl with her husband and in-laws.
Police have already started an investigation. The investigators have asked neighbours about the relationship of the couple and the role of her in-laws in their personal life.
The three accused were taken to the court where they were remanded in the police custody.
