A 24-year-old woman accused of running a gang of women thieves was arrested by the Railway police for stealing jewellery worth Rs 4.50 lakh. According to the police, the accused, Anjali easily mixed with other passengers and stole their jewellery from their handbags. She runs a gang which operates at railway stations in Delhi.
According to the police, on March 2, an incident of jewellery theft was reported from New Delhi Railway Station. Days later, police received an information about a woman thief who is the kingpin of a gang that commits thefts in railway stations.
Based on this information, police teams raided Paharganj and nearby areas. When an informer identified the accused woman, she was apprehended. During interrogation, Anjali revealed that she runs a gang of thieves who are active on different railway stations across the national Capital. With her arrest, police recovered stolen jewellery in heavy quantity from her possession.
She further revealed her modus operandi. These women mixed with large crowds and taking advantage of this, they came close to women and opened their handbags and took out their valuables, after which they fled.
