A woman was allegedly killed by her husband and in-laws for not meeting their dowry demands, police said on Wednesday.
The victim has been identified as Shabnam, a native of Uttar Pradesh, they said.
In an FIR, Shabnam’s father has alleged that her husband and in-laws used to harass her over dowry even after two years of marriage, a police official said.
The father in the complaint has also claimed that his daughter called him up yesterday to inform that her in-laws were demanding Rs 50,000 and had threatened to kill her if the demand was not met, the police said.
According to him, the victim’s husband and in-laws killed her on Tuesday night and cremated the body on Wednesday morning without informing her family.
A case of dowry death has been registered and the woman’s husband, Virendra Singh, has been arrested, police said.
