Woman held on auto driver’s complaint of confinement, sexual assault

A 32-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday for allegedly kidnapping and robbing a 42-year-old auto-rickshaw driver in South Delhi’s Safdarjung Enclave area, police said. Her accomplice, who hails from Tanzania, is still at large.  

“One of the accused, identified as Renu Lalwani has been arrested whereas the identity of the other accused has been established and a search operation is on to arrest her,” a police official said. The auto-driver identified as Umesh Prasad, who is a resident of Mandawli area, said he dropped a passenger at IGNOU at around 8.25 pm. While returning from Saket, a woman asked him to drop her at Arjun Nagar in South Delhi. On their way, she asked Prasad to stop the auto at a market place and asked him to give Rs 300 to buy some household items. She promised him that she would return the money once she reach home. 

“When I dropped her outside her house, she asked me to come upstairs to take money. I went on the first floor, she invited me inside. She closed the main door, switched off the lights and offered me a drink which I refused. She then robbed me of Rs 400 and snatched my mobile too. In the meantime, her friend joined her and locked the doors again. I protested but to no avail. The duo torn my clothes and tried to establish physical relationship with me. I pushed them and jumped out from the window,” Prasad told Millennium Post. Prasad told police that the woman, who is from Tanzania, made a MMS of the whole incident.
