The in-laws and husband of a 25-year-old woman were arrested on Sunday morning and booked for dowry harassment, leading to death.
The deceased, who has been identified as Shilpi, was found dead near Dwarka Sector 12 metro station late on Saturday night. When a passer-by informed the police about the body, a a police team reached the spot and took the victim to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. An investigation was carried to trace the identity of the girl.
Shilpi, a house-wife, got married to Deepak a few months back and used to reside alone in a rented accommodation in Rajori Garden.
When her family was informed about Shilpi’s death, her family termed her death as murder, despite the fact that no injury marks were present on her body.
The family alleged that soon after her marriage, her in-laws including and husband started harassing her for dowry. Every day they used to demand expensive gifts, cash, jewellery other things.A few weeks back, she shifted to Rajori Garden, where she was residing alone.
According to police, after the family alleged murder, a porst-mortem was carried out. Initial reports termed the death a case of suicide from consumption of poison.
'Investigation was carried out from all plausible angles and finally the culprits have been apprehended. Deepak Sapra (28), who is a teacher by profession, has been arrested along with his parents—Yogesh Sapra(father) and Usha Sapra(mother). All the arrested persons are the residents of Vishnu Garden. After they got the information of Shilpi's suicide, they fled from their residence,' the official added.
