Woman files case against AAP legislator, aide

A 35-year-old woman has filed a case against an AAP worker who abused her and used obscene gestures against her outside the AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan’s residence in Batla House area, police said on Wednesday. She had also accused Khan of threatening her of dire consequences.

A case has been registered against the accused and the legislator under Sections 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Jamia Nagar police station in South Delhi, the officer said.

The alleged incident took place on July 10, when the complainant went to the residence of the AAP MLA in South Delhi’s Batla House locality after a telephonic conversation with him to complain about poor electricity supply in the area. One of the legislator’s supporters present there allegedly abused the woman and threatened her with dire consequences, she said.

The complainant alleged that the supporter said he was abusing her on the “orders of Khan”. He represents Okhla constituency in the Delhi Assembly. A senior police officer said they are probing the matter.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Delhi Police also registered a case against AAP’s Malviya Nagar legislator Somnath Bharti for allegedly instigating some of his supporters to misbehave with a woman. Whereas, Bharti claimed, that he is being wrongly framed.

A case has been registered at the Saket Police Station under IPC Section 109 — Punishment of abetment if the act abetted is committed in consequence.

The men he allegedly instigated have been booked under IPC Sections 354 — Assault or criminal force to woman, 323 — Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt, 506 — Punishment for criminal intimidation and 509 — word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman.
