The harvest festival Lohri is obviously going to be big deal for Punjabis in the Capital. To ring in the celebrations, an evening of folk and Sufi music has been organised in the Capital.

Enthralling the audiences will be popular Punjabi singer Yakoob Gill and his troupe of eight to nine people who will be coming all the way from Amritsar. They will sing Sufi and folk songs.

The show will last for 90 minutes. Expect to dance to the beats of dholak, dhol, tabla, keyboard, flute, and two chorus boys.

Delhiites will get a chance to sway to the beats of popular numbers like Sunder Mundariye, Sultan Bahoo, Ossey Rang Da Dhola, Heer, Chhalla, Jugni, Mast Kalander
among others.

‘Our compositions have an Indian feel to it which blends with the modern day instruments as well,’ said Gill.

‘Last year, when we performed in Delhi, we found that the audience were pretty fond of Sufi music and there was quite a craze for it,’ said Gill.

So what is in store of revellers in the Capital at the Lohri celebrations this year? ‘This year also, we will sing for the crowd, keeping in mind their tastes and preferences. We will perform according to the interest of the crowd,’ he added.

‘Earlier Lohri was a craze for the new bride, but now the festival is getting popular among youngsters and even those who are not Punjabis,’ said Gill.

Gill’s performance last year at the India Habitat Centre was quite a success. So get ready to
