Despite providing outside support to the UPA government, the Samajwadi Party would fight alone in the Lok Sabha polls. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, in an exclusive chat with Millennium Post, said, ‘The party will fight the election alone, and after the election result the decision will be taken whether to form an alliance or not with the Congress. In a democracy things like this work according to the numbers.’
‘But this time the public will get the chance to decide because they have seen the Central government for the last 10 years. They have seen the merits and demerits of this government on issues like relationship with Pakistan and China, corruption and other matters. They have also seen the BSP government, and they are watching our government, so they will get a chance to estimate and decide, making the best party win,’ he said.
About the controversy over SDM Durga Shakti Nagpal’s suspension, Akhilesh said: ‘Lot of politics has taken place on this issue. Why has it become such a big issue? It was not an issue on which huge discussions were needed. We have served the chargesheet and after the reply comes further action will be taken. But to say we want to trouble or harass someone is totally wrong.’
‘The government has given its answer in the High Court and it will answer in Supreme Court also. Sand mafia is a very big issue and the government has taken proper action against illegal mining,’ he added. ‘Whoever is involved in illegal mining will face action. I don’t thing the government is going slow against the people who were involved in it,’ he said.
On the issue of the food security bill, he said, ‘ Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) will take a final call. Till the time it isn’t in favour of farmers we won’t support it. It is difficult for us or our party to think about it until and unless it will be in favour of farmers. It requires lots of logistics and infrastructure to be implemented by the state government. What are the things the central government will provide will have to be found out.’
‘Netaji has already discussed these matters with the PM and we will discuss it again when it will come up in the House. Our sole aim is that the farmers should not be harmed,’ he added.
