The kidnapping-cum-murder of the two siblings - Mansij (7) and Yashvi (5) could be averted if the parents had been warned after an earlier incident when they found door to their house locked from outside.
During interrogation, the arrested trio, including the sibling's maternal uncle told the police that earlier too they had attempted to kidnap the duo from their school. On 23 February, as per their plan, Shivam Gupta (19) locked the rented accommodation of Manoj Kumar Chahar, the father of murdered siblings, so that their mother could not go to their school to pick them up. Incidentally, the children were at home due to unexpected rain in the city. When Pankaj went to the school, the group got to know that the children had not come to school on that day.
Later, on 26 February, the same pattern was used to kidnap the siblings. The doors was locked from outside at the time when Yogita, the children’s mother, was about to leave to pick up the two.
