“I resigned from BJP today (Monday) because of Bedi’s dictatorial attitude,” said Tandon in his letter forwarded to the party.
The leader, however, withdrew the resignation in the evening saying he regrets his letter against Bedi. Narendra Tandon, former ABVP activist, had started his career in Delhi University politics getting elected as DUSU president in 1986-87. Days before the polling, he was brutally stabbed and won the polls even as he struggled for life in the ICU. He came to limelight when he played a major role to convene meetings of VP Singh, Arif Mohhamad Khan and Arun Nehru in Maurice Nagar chowk of Delhi University when the walked out of Rajiv Gandhi’s government levelling charges of corruption.
Tandon, a former secretary of the party’s city unit and a permanent invitee to Delhi BJP’s executive committee, tendered his resignation saying it was difficult for him to continue working with Bedi. Downplaying his move, the BJP said his resignation will not affect its prospects as he was a “low level” worker and his performance was also ‘not impressive’.
“His record as a party functionary is not impressive. He is a frustrated man and has always created trouble for the party in the past as well. He had once filed nomination against party candidate Rajni Abbi in the 2013 assembly polls in Timarpur constituency. His quitting will not at all affect the party,” Delhi BJP media in charge Praveen Shankar Kapoor said.
