The members of the Indian Olympic Association on Thursday gave themselves a whopping hike in their travel and dearness allowances to attend the various meetings of the country’s apex sports body.
At its Special General Body meeting here, the IOA adopted a resolution to increase six-fold the allowance from Rs.1,000 to Rs.6,000 a day as, lodging and transport allowances.
The members can now fly or travel in train first class air-conditioned. The resolution to hike allowances was one of the two points on the agenda.
Hitherto, only the IOA office-bearers were allowed to fly and all other members were reimbursed AC Second Class fare.
The resolution to hike the allowances was one of the two points on the agenda for the Special General Body Meeting, the other being that of granting affiliation to some national sports federations.
