In early September, Attorney General GE Vanhanvati was threatened by a caller identifying herself as Congress President Sonia Gandhi. On Monday, Delhi Police said the Economic Offences Wing has filed a case in the matter and investigations were on. The complaint reads that Vahanvati had received a hoax call by a woman on his landline, posing as Sonia Gandhi. The caller showed unhappiness about his performance and suggested he should resign. Vahanvati has suspected a woman officer from a public sector undertaking.
On Monday, Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde confirmed that a hoax call was made to Vahanvati. An officer in the EOW said, ‘The call was made on Vahanvati's landline early September when Sonia Gandhi was in New York. The caller introduced herself to Vahanvati's personal secretary as Sonia and said she was calling from New York.'
