Come July 2013 and the most awaited Bollywood film fraternity awards will be on your TV screens. Popularly known as the IIFA (International Indian Film Awards), the awards are known to transcend boundaries and has taken Bollywood across the globe.
The Capital saw a glimpse of its impact when the venue for the awards was announced at the Kingdom of Dreams in Gurgaon on Tuesday. Present at the event were B’wood stars Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sabbas Joseph (Director, Wizcraft and IIFA) and others.
In its 14 years, IIFA has travelled to picturesque destinations across the world and has graced the shores of UK, Europe, Middle East, Southeast Asia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and North America. With each year bringing in a new destination and grander celebrations, IIFA 2013 will be held at The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel from 4 July- 6 July.
Brendon Elliott, VP, Sales and Resort Marketing, Venetian Macau Limited said, ‘The prestigious IIFA awards were last held in Macao in 2009, and we are extremely pleased that The Venetian Macao is once again the official host destination partner for the awards ceremony this July. The response to the IIFA Awards being in town three years ago was simply enormous, and I have every expectation that it will be just as big and just as enthusiastic this time around.’
‘It has been after careful consideration that we have decided to host the IIFA weekend in Macau. The enormous integrated resort is a like a city in itself and we had an unforgettable experience in 2009 when we celebrated 10 glorious years of the IIFA movement. We are glad to be back and we are positive that this year will be more spectacular as we celebrate 100 years of Indian Cinema,’ added Sabbas Joseph.
Abhishek’s presence at the event indicated that the Bachchan family has mended its differences with the award organisers. The family which has been missing in action since 2010 after Big B, IIFA’s brand ambassador for 10 years, did not attend the Sri Lankan edition amid protests by Tamil groups.
‘I am ecstatic to hear about Macau being the venue for this year. This is the place where we celebrated the 10th year of IIFA and I am happy that it is going back to the same place where we will celebrate 100 years of cinema,’ Abhishek said.
Jacqueline who is nominated for Race 2 in IIFA this year shared her experience too. ‘To be a part of the IIFA family is a feeling of great pride for anyone who is a part of the Indian Film Industry. IIFA has taken Indian cinema on an unparalleled journey over the last 13 years and it’s a proud moment to see the movement continuing to make impactful strides.’
Abhishek further commented that IIFA is not only an award ceremony which clearly honours true talent of Bollywood but it is equally instrumental in bridging ties between nations and helping the tourism business grow.
