The Special Cell of Delhi police claimed to have recovered some expensive articles recently bought by Sreesanth, including a cell phone which he gifted to his girlfriend. All this was allegedly bought by the mercurial pacer using the money he was paid by the bookies for IPL spot-fixing.
According to the special commissioner of police (special cell, Delhi police), S N Srivastava, during Sreesanth’s interrogation at Lodi Road, regarding where he spent the spot fixing money, investigators came to know of some of the expensive articles he purchased using the money.
Sreesanth confessed that he had bought a cell phone, Blackberry Z-10 in Jaipur and gifted the same to his girlfriend.
Besides, he spent a portion of the money on purchasing branded apparel for himself from the Diesel showroom in Mumbai.
‘A dedicated team was formed which took the Indian pacer to Jaipur, where police recovered the cell phone costing approximately Rs 40,000 from his girlfriend’s possession.
Besides, cops also identified the store manager of the Diesel showroom in Mumbai who confirmed the purchases the player had made at the store. The entire payment was made in cash and the apparels have also been recovered,’ said Srivastava.
When asked whether police would call Sreesanth’s girlfriend to join the investigation, Srivastava answered in the negative.
Meanwhile police sent nine persons including Sreesanth to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) situated in the outskirts of the capital, where their voice samples would be taken and matched with the tapped conversations. Besides, police also took the samples of their handwriting to match them with the police findings.
On Tuesday special cell arrested former player-turned-bookie, Babu Rao Yadav, for his alleged involvement in the ongoing IPL spot-fixing case. He had been detained by the police on Monday.
Yadav had played Ranji matches and ICL (Indian Cricket League) tournament during 2007 to 2008.
Meanwhile, A Delhi court on Tuesday sent cricketer S Sreesanth, his Rajasthan Royals teammates Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila, and eight bookies, all arrested for alleged spot fixing in the IPL, to additional five days in police custody. Special Cell on Tuesday received another complaint from Rajasthan Royals against the three players.
