Update: 2013-02-15 23:50 GMT
Actress Jessica Alba says she once thought she was having a stroke in the middle of the night and was taken to the hospital.

The 31-year-old was sleeping when she woke up to find her hand going numb.

‘Basically, I thought I was having a stroke last week... It was 2.30 in the morning and I woke up and my hand started to go numb. The entire thing went numb,’ Alba said on a US chat show.

‘It was dead, I couldn’t move it. My whole arm went numb, I got cold sensations in the back of my neck to the front. I couldn’t move my face,’ she added. The actress was taken to the hospital for a check-up and it was revealed that she was suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome, a common condition that causes pain, numbness and a tingling sensation in the hand and fingers.
