Even on Tuesday, a day after heavy downpour, waterlogging was reported from more than 100 places in the city along with around a dozen cases of tree falling and building collapse. The MCDs blamed Public Works Department (PWD) for not doing the needful as majority of the waterlogged roads fall under the department. With reports of waterlogging in parts of the city, traffic chaos and its cascading effects were witnessed on city roads during morning and evening hours. The worst affected were outer parts of the city where poor drainage system caused waterlogging for the second consecutive day.
As per the report, areas coming under North MCD have reported waterlogging at 60 places with reports of eight more trees falling. The Corporation also informed of two incidents of building collapse. Almost a similar data was released by the civic agency on Monday. “Out of six zones, four zones — Narela, Civil Lines, Karol Bagh and Rohini — have reported waterlogging for a second day. The chaos, which has been created due to PWD inaction, has resulted in massive jams in every nook and corner. Civil Lines, Karol Bagh and Rohini reported tree falling while Narela and Rohini zones reported building collapse,” said an official of the Corporation.
In South MCD area, waterlogging was reported from nearly 30 places on Tuesday. Tree fallings were reported from at least three places too. On Monday, the region had reported waterlogging at 38 locations, tree falling at six and building collapse at two. The EDMC area had a similar situation too as no improvement was seen even after tall claims of having unclogged drains and cleared road of water were reported by the Corporation. The agency data revealed waterlogging at nearly one and half dozen locations with one tree falling report.
Amid water on roads, the city on Tuesday witnessed either slow movement of traffic or jams on several busy intersections leaving motorists stuck for hours. Several areas — Ashok Vihar, Jasola, Okhla, IIT Gate, Chelmsford Road towards Paharganj, Ring Road Sarai Kale Khan towards DND, Sarita Vihar, Defence Colony, INA, Rajghat towards ITO, Aurbindo Marg, Anand Vihar, Wazirabad — were waterlogged following incessant rains on Saturday morning.
