The families of the victims claimed that the police has only lodged a FIR against the concerned authorities, but has not initiated any other action against them.
The incident took place at around 1.40 pm when the two children, identified as Mursleem (6) and Suhail (10), were playing near the garbage dumb which is located close to their residence. The wall suddenly collapsed and the concrete fell over the children.
A passerby heard the screams of the children and gathered people to rescue the victims. ‘Meanwhile, a call was made to the fire department at around and four fire tenders were immediately sent to the site,’ an official in fire department said. The children were rushed to the nearby Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital where doctors pronounced Mursleem dead on arrival. However, Suhail suffered severe injuries all over his body. He has been kept under observation and his condition was said to be critical.
A case under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code including negligence causing death against East Delhi Municipal Corporation has been lodged. ‘The authorities will be contacted soon to explain the cause of the negligence,’ a police official investigating the case said. He added that the investigation has been carried out to ascetain the reason of the wall collapse. Mursleem’s father works as a labourer in a Seemapuri factory.
