Minister of state for external affairs General VK Singh’s tweets on ‘Duty’ and ‘Disgust’ snowballed into a controversy, after he attended Pakistan Day celebrations on Monday night. He clarified saying that his statements were “misinterpreted.”
While addressing mediapersons on Tuesday night, he said: “I have not tendered my resignation. My tweets on #duty and #disgust have been misinterpreted. There was nothing new in the event (Pakistan Day celebrations), including attendance by separatists. When in May 2014, I took to the office of minister of State of External Affairs, I was aware of duties and responsibilities that came with it. Attending the Pakistan Day celebrations is one such protocol that every minister of State of External Affairs has followed in the past.” He added, “I am a loyal member of the party. I feel that it is important to clarify that I am fully committed to my government especially to my PM.”
A high level meeting on Tuesday at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 7, RCR residence was held to discuss this as well as the issue of Land Bill. It was attended by Sushma Swaraj, Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley and others.
