Visually impaired person killed, 8 others injured in scuffle between 2 brothers
A visually impaired person was killed, while eight persons, including three women, were injured in a scuffle that broke out between two brothers in North-West Delhi’s Bharat Nagar area in the wee hours last Friday (Eid). Four persons were arrested in the case on Sunday, police said.
According to the police, around 25-30 people, armed with hockey sticks, iron rods and pistols, joined the melee and attacked each other.
The police said the incident took place in the narrow lanes of Wazirpur’s JJ Colony on the night of Eid when a fight between two brothers took a violent turn. Soon, their families got involved and the duo was allegedly joined by their relatives and friends, who were armed with hockey sticks, iron rods and pistols. They even attacked women and children on both the sides, police said.
One visually impaired person, identified as Shravan, suffered grievous injuries in the melee. He was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said. Besides, eight others, including three women, were also injured in the incident. Of these, the condition of five was stated to be critical, police said.
According to the police, the brothers had a property dispute and there were many fights between their families earlier too. But they never reported the matter to the police.
Meanwhile, residents of the area alleged that the police reached the spot two hours after a PCR call was made. However, the senior police officials have refuted the allegation.
The entire act was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the area, based on which a case was registered against the accused.
Police said four persons of the family, who have been named in the FIR, have been arrested and raids are being conducted across the city to apprehend the other accused.
