A day after Millennium Post published a report on the agony of a soldier, who had to rush from Siachen to get an FIR registered in Delhi, the vigilance department of Delhi Police stepped in and initiated an investigation into the matter on Monday.

The soldier, Nayak Hanuman Prasad, was compelled to take an emergency leave and come to Delhi to register an FIR on behalf of his brother, whose family had allegedly been beaten up by goons, bent up on capturing their house in East Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar. When they went to the Shakar Pur police station, the cops allegedly refused to register an FIR.

On Monday, the vigilance department called up Prasad and his brother and asked them to come to their office at Barakhamba Road to get their statements recorded. “We have started investigating the case. A report shall be prepared after the initial probe and it will be forwarded to the concerned district head,” said a senior cop. DCP (East) Ajay Kumar is the district head in this case.

“After I met Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi on January 12, he asked me to visit DCP Ajay Kumar’s office again. It was Ajay Kumar who called up the SHO at Shakar Pur and asked him to register the FIR immediately,” said Prasad, who had also served as an NSG commando from 2011 to 2014. After the statements are recorded, we shall be able to ascertain whom to probe, said the vigilance investigation officer.

In his letter dated February 10, 2015, submitted at the vigilance office, Prasad wrote about an alleged nexus between the police and property dealers in the area, and how they had allegedly framed his relatives, who were actually the victims in the case. Copies of the same complaint, in possession of Millennium Post, were received by the office of the Shakar Pur SHO on January 27, office of DCP (East) on January 28 and Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range) on February 10.

On February 9, Prasad requested the Army to extend his leave by 15 days, as the FIR was yet to be registered.
