After the roll-back of Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP), DU V-C Dinesh Sing got another blow with the UGC report which stated that more than Rs 100 crore were diverted from OBC fund to buy laptops for FYUP students.

The Satyam Committee, which was appointed by UGC found that DU funds were diverted to buy more than 60,000 laptops which where not even distrubuted amongst students. The committee also found that the varsity did not take statutory approval for expenditure on diversion of funds.

After the report, the teachers’ association and students’ organisations have demanded that Ministry of Human Resource Development should take strict actions against the V-C. They have also demanded his resignation from the prestigious post.

‘The university and Vice-Chancellor have misused the funds. It’s students’ money and they are answerable for this. We will protest against this and V-C has to give justification for same. Earlier, it was his dictatorship and now, it has been proven he is corrupt too,’ said Rohit Chahal, national secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarathi Parishad.

Earlier, DUTA had also alleged that more than Rs 100 crore were diverted the fund. But DU authorities did not provide details about the price at which laptops were purchased.
