US-Brazil venture wins Afghan aircraft contract

Stepping up efforts to equip the Afghan Air Force, the US military has awarded a USD 427.5 million contract to Sierra Nevada Corp and its Brazilian partner to supply Afghanistan with 20 light aircrafts.

These 20 aircraft are scheduled to be delivered to operational air bases in Afghanistan beginning in the summer of 2014 to conduct advanced flight training, surveillance, close air support and air interdiction missions, Pentagon Press Secretary George Little, said on Thursday.
