Agitating contractual teachers on Wednesday sought a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Varanasi on Friday, even as UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav urged them not to take any extreme step after one of them committed suicide. Yadav assured the ‘shiksha <g data-gr-id="18" data-style="color: #3b3b3b; font-size: 11px;">mitras</g>’ that his government would find a way to resolve the crisis after the Allahabad High Court had on September 12 declared as illegal the move to regularise them.
UP Shiksha Mitra Welfare Association President Jitendra Shahi said, “We have submitted a memorandum with the Prime Minister’s Office in Varanasi, seeking a meeting, and the administration has also told us that they will try for <g data-gr-id="14">it</g> but we are awaiting confirmation.”
“We have asked all 1.72 lakh <g data-gr-id="15">shiksha</g> <g data-gr-id="16">mitras</g> to reach Varanasi on September 18 as we want to show our <g data-gr-id="23">strength</g> but we will not indulge in aggressive protest.” He has requested the PMO to allow a five-member delegation to meet Modi.
Meanwhile, the CM said: “The government will consider putting forth its views in a manner which is acceptable to the court. I urge <g data-gr-id="20">shiksha</g> <g data-gr-id="21">mitras</g> that they should not agitate.”
