Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh and Union Chemical and Fertilizer Minister Ananth Kumar on Wednesday reached Patna to review the relief work for earthquake-hit people.
The ministers, who have come to Bihar on the instruction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, went straight to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) to meet the quake victims. Earlier, it was announced that Union Health minister JP Nadda would also accompany them, but he could not make it. Senior BJP leaders Sushil Kumar Modi and Nand Kishore Yadav accompanied them.
The Union ministers went around wards in PMCH and enquired about the medical facilities provided to the injured. Asked whether proper arrangements had been made in PMCH, Singh said everybody knows the condition of the hospital “but we have to ensure best in the given situation only.”
The ministers later left for Raxaul on the Indo-Nepal border to oversee relief works being carried out in the area.
The state government has set up a special relief camp at Raxaul for quake-hit victims of Bihar and Nepal. Singh and Kumar also held a review meeting with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Meanwhile, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar also reviewed relief operations in border areas of the state even as schools and colleges reopened in Patna and other parts, after remaining closed for two days due to the tremors.
He also inspected the relief centre at Bettiah and instructed officials to maintain hygiene while preparing food packets.
Quake in Assam
Guwahati: Quake, measuring 3.5 on the Richter Scale, shook Assam in the early hours on Wdednesday. The Met office said the epicentre was in Sonitpur district on latitude 26.8 degree north and 92.5 degree east at a depth of five km, the office said. No loss of life or property was reported, police said.
