A massive fire broke out in a medicine godown in East Delhi’s Mandawali area on Tuesday morning. No casualties were reported in the incident. In a separate incident, two persons sustained severe injuries when a major fire broke out at a godown which stored packaged sweets in North-west Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
According to a fire department official, the first incident took place at around 8.30 am in the drug factory in Mandawali area. Around 21 fire tenders were rushed to douse the flames.
Initial reports say that the fire broke out due to a short circuit. The official further said that it took around four hours to completely douse the flames following which a cooling operation was launched.
In the second incident, fire broke out in a godown in North-west Delhi’s Jahangirpiri area in the early hours of Tuesday in which two persons suffered serious injuries. The two persons have been identified as Dinesh (40) and Jatin (25).
According to an official, the fire broke out in the godown which stored sweet packages. The incident took place at around 1.40 am on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot to carry out a rescue operation.
Dinesh and Jatin fell unconscious after they were severely choked by the smoke. They have received severe burn injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at the LNJP Hospital, the fire department official said.
The official added that it took around four and a half hours for the firefighters to completely douse the flames.
