According to the police, the landlady of the house identified as Sunita Beniwal (40) had gone to serve tea to the labourers working in her house when the unfortunate incident took place. A 35-year-old labourer identified as Vijay who hailed from Bihar also died in the incident. The two people injured were also labourers.
Police conducted a rescue operation, after which all four victims were rushed to a nearby hospital. While Sunita Beniwal and Vijay were declared dead on arrival, the other two labourers were admitted in serious condition.
“A complaint was received in the control room on Saturday about 5.30 pm that a building has collapsed in Sonia Vihar. The site was inspected by the junior engineer of the area and it was found out to be a property bearing number A-3/56, gali number-3, pocket-6, Sonia Vihar, ground floor constructed in 50 square yards,” said a senior official of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation.
“Repair work was undertaken by the owner of the property. The roof of the property collapsed during the repair process,” he added.
