Two youths were arrested for attempting to rob a 28-year-old man at gunpoint at central Delhi’s Jama Masjid on Wednesday.

Mohammad Rihan, 22, and Rashid, 25, residents of Chandni Mahal, tried to flee when they saw a patrolling team of Chandni Mahal police station, but were caught. 'The patrolling team became suspicious when the two tried to flee. They were overpowered and caught after a chase,' said Devesh Chandra Srivastva, additional commissioner of police (central).

A loaded country-made pistol along with three cartridges were recovered from Rihan’s possession. Rashid had four cartridges with him.

'The duo disclosed that earlier too, on 9 March, they had fired at a man named Nadim in an attempt to rob him. Nadim had resisted the bid and they had been forced to flee that time too, owing to the arrival of a police team on the scene,' Srivastva added.

It has been found that Rehan has previously been  involved in 26 cases, including murder and attempt to murder. He was released on bail last month in a case of attempted murder. Rashid has previously been involved in 14 cases.
