Two security guards posted at sitting councillor Krishan Pehalwan’s office were killed over an altercation with some unidentified persons during indiscriminate firing in South-west Delhi’s Najafgarh area on Friday night.
Meanwhile, refuting to call it a gang-war, a senior police official of the Delhi Police said the two guards died over a minor scuffle. Police arrested one of the accused, Joginder, alias Fauja (29), on Saturday. The incident comes a year after MLA Bharat Singh was bumped off.
According to the police, the incident took place in South-west Delhi’s Najafgarh area at the Indian National Lok Dal councillor Kishan Pehalwan’s office at around 11.30 pm on Friday where some people had gathered for a liquor party. A scuffle broke out between the two security guards over drinks which was further escalated when other people too joined in and started firing in the air.
In the course of which, one of the security guards, Ashok (40) died on the spot while the second guard, Fauji (42) succumbed to bullet injuries in a private hospital.
“Four-five other people residing at Kishan Pehalwan’s office were also involved in the party. A heated argument ensued among them over some issue after they consumed alcohol. Some of them started firing indiscriminately and the two received bullet injuries,” said a senior police official.
Krishan Pehalwan, considered to be one of the most notorious gangsters in the Capital for more than a decade, is a sitting councillor of the area. He is the brother of former Najafgarh legislator Bharat Singh, who was killed last year.
“We have collected the CCTV footage of the incident and are scrutinising it frame by frame. So far, we have arrested one of the accused, Joginder,” said the official.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC against unknown persons at Najafgarh police station. Further investigation is underway.
