Two die in government home

Two youth died under mysterious circumstances in Asha Kiran, a government observation home for the metally challenged, in Rohini. It is being alleged that two years ago, several inmates of this observation home had died due to pathetic living conditions.

The two deceased, identified as Akash alias Shiva, 26, and Shayam, 25. According to the home's staff, the duo died a natural death. They denied the charge of death under mysterious circumstances.

According to the sources, Akash got admitted at Rajan Babu TB hospital on 24 April for treatment of tuberculosis. But he died on 6 May while undergoing treatment. While the other, Shyam, was admitted to the BSA hospital on 8 May and died on 10 May, due to cardiac disorder.

The police have sent the body for postmortem. The reports are still awaited, said the staff members.

The observation home is under the Social Welfare Department of the Delhi government. The home had witnessed several deaths of inmates in 2010 due to improper care and medical facilities. The matter was highlighted after the death of 26 inmates in just five months in 2010. Delhi's Chief Minister Shiela Dikhshit had to intervene later and ensure an upgraded infrastructure to avoid deaths.
