Two business men were robbed of Rs. 5 lakh by two unidentified men in central Delhi’s Daryaganj area on Monday night. The incident took place at a distance of barely 100 metres from the Daryaganj police station. According to a police official, the incident was reported at approximately 11 pm. Initial investigations suggest that the two accused belong to the 'Thak- Thak' gang, which is known to target cars in upmarket localities.

The gang generally functions in two ways, by either breaking open the windows of vehicles parked on the roadside and decamping with valuables, or by distracting the attention of the driver by throwing currency notes of small denominations near the car’s window. The second method was adopted on Monday. Mohammad Yakub and Gulfam, were returning home with Rs. 5 lakh and stopped to meet the Daryaganj legislator Shoaib Iqbal, leaving the bag of money in the car.

The driver of the car, Mohammad Kabir, stayed behind in the car. According to Kabir, 'He was approached by a man who asked him whether he had dropped some money outside the car. The driver went out to check and saw a ten rupee note lying on the road. He bent down to pick it up and when he returned to the car, the money was missing.’ The accused are absconding.
