Travel & fashion: The to-do list

Come summer and some heavy duty travelling is on the cards. Besides the hassles of tickets, visas and millions of cancelled plans – comes the bigger headache of what to wear when we travel and what to wear once we reach the holiday destination.

A pair of casual jeans, stylish cotton tees, sunglasses and hats are a must when you are travelling, says designer Rina Dhaka and adds that women should carry outfits and accessories according to the nature of destination.

While travelling in flights, it is advisable to carry a light stole or a summer jacket since long hours on the plane tends to get cold and some economy flights do not have provisions for blankets. And would you not rather carry your own fashion bit rather than tucking unceremoniously into a in-flight blanket?

Make sure the footwear is comfortable. Flats are best for long travel hours - try to avoid heels. Feet tend to swell at times on flights and wearing tight shoes or heels can make matters worse for your feet.

Keep the fashion picks for the holiday destination but make sure you are aware of the weather of the place you are visiting to be able to pack better. While women have a tendency to over-pack, it is best avoided because it is always a pain to drag a heavy suitcase along and imagine if you were to shop during the trip – you may not be able to pack in the new loot.

‘A woman should carry clothes according to the place she is going to. If you are going on a holiday on a beach, carry light-weight resort wear like one-piece dresses, short skirts and cocktail gowns in bright colours with matching accessories and shoes,’ Dhaka said.

Summer destinations are usually the hills of not the beaches – for the former invest in some tough sneakers and some sexy boots. For the beaches – get fit and flaunt that bikini body. But before that – get your travel dress-code right. Happy holidays!
