Traffic to be affected in New Delhi for Christmas fervour, caution cops

A day before Christmas Celebrations 2016, a ‘Midnight Mass’ will be held on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday from 11 pm and also on early morning, a ‘Morning Mass’ will be held on December 25 that falls on Sunday in the New Delhi District at various churches. The traffic cops have advised accordingly to avoid certain stretches at the time of the celebrations.

Major congregation of devotees will be witnessed in New Delhi churches — Sacred Heart Cathedral, Gol Dak Khana; Free Church at 10 Sansad Marg and The Cathedral Church of the Redemption, 1 Church Road.

According  to the advisory, traffic will remain heavy in certain districts of New Delhi district. Also, some particular stretches where traffic flow will be heavy should be avoided from 11.00 pm on December 24 till 6 am on December 25.

People are advised to avoid stretches from RML to Gol Dak Khana from roundabout RML, from Bhai Veer Singh Marg/Kali Bari T-point towards Gol Dak Khana, from Patel Chowk on Ashoka Road towards Gol Dak Khana and from Outer Circle Connaught Place towards Gol Dak Khana on Baba Kharak Singh Marg from December 24 11 pm to December 25 midnight. “All other roads leading towards New Delhi Railway Station and adjoining areas will remain open for general public.  People are advised to use metro and public transports to reach Connaught Place and the abovementioned areas,” said Garima Bhatnagar, Joint CP Traffic.

“The nearest Metro stations are Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Barakhamba Road, R K Ashram Marg, Central Secretariat, Janpath and Mandi House,” she added.

A proper parking space will be allotted for people at Pandit Pant Marg (single lane both sides), Jai Singh Road (single lane both sides) and Church Road (single lane).
