Though the traffic police have deployed several cranes to remove vehicles that break down in the middle of the roads, a huge chaos was witnessed in the Subroto Park area. The truck which broke down around 7.30 on Monday morning could be cleared only around the evening leading to a traffic jam that lasted for hours.
The worst affected areas were Vasant Kunj, Dhaula Kuan, Delhi airport road and Delhi Cantonment area.
A Delhi Traffic Police official on condition of anonymity confirmed that traffic was affected due to the breakdown of the truck for hours. However, he didn’t comment on the reason for the delay in removing the truck. Meanwhile, sources said that police do not have the hydraulic and mechanical crane which could have removed a truck which was carrying such a heavy load.
On an average, hundred commercial vehicles break down on different roads of Delhi every day. In order to remove these vehicles, high capacity hydraulic and mechanical cranes are deployed at strategic locations.
In addition to these heavy duty cranes, several light cranes have been deployed in each traffic circle to remove light vehicles which are either parked in no-parking zones or have developed technical snags.
