Officials from the corporation had earlier demanded parking and conversion charges and issued threats to seal their shops.
The traders claimed that such notices are in clear violation of The National Capital Territory (Special Provision) Act, 2011. The delegation drew his attention towards notices issued by the North MCD, particularly in special areas which have created an atmosphere of ‘terror’ amongst the trading community. The CAIT said that the said notices are ultra-virus, illegal and void since The National Capital Territory (Special Provision) Act, 2011 provides protection to traders from any kind of punitive action on issues pertaining to Master Plan till 31st December, 2014. The delegation also said that there are many other provisions which debar MCD to take any action.
Chandolia however assured traders that prior to meeting the CAIT delegation, he has held a meeting with senior officials of the North MCD. ‘I have directed the officials to not initiate any proceedings on the earlier notices and no further notices will be issued’, he said.
He also said that a joint meeting of the senior civic officers with trade leaders will be convened very shortly where issues relating to parking and conversion charges, sealing, issuance of trade licenses will be discussed. ‘I am well aware of the problems of the traders and all kinds of bureaucratic hurdles will be removed’, he assured the traders.
