Taking the initiative to provide user- friendly services to travellers, tourism ministry’s tie-up with Google, has completed most of the crucial steps. ‘Tourism minister K Chiranjeevi has a vision to bring changes in the ministry by making it more tech-savvy. The main idea was to focus on electronic delivery of services provided by the government for users across the globe. After Brazil, India is the only country which will be implementing this mechanism, while we are going a step ahead of them too,’ a ministry official told Millennium Post.
Giving the latest update on the project, the official said, ‘We have completed some of the crucial proposed steps which include planing the travel to India from abroad. Also the facility to get visa online has been done.’
‘Travelling within India, which includes air and rail, has been completed. The process of uploading 3D visual walk-in tours have been done. Every state will have a walk-in tour of the city, which might not necessarily be the capital, but the most popular tourist location,’ the official said.
Elucidating on the important steps which entail this project, an official from the ministry said, ‘The first step to this system entails planning the trip to India for a foreign traveller. All the information regrading this would be available on the website, like the amount of money one wants to spend as well as the number of days, according to their travel plan will be set-up. The itinerary would be displayed to the aspiring travellers, giving an estimate of the money to be spent during the travel time. After this comes the aspect of ‘how to reach India – the mode of travel’. Here one can reach by air – mostly for foreign travellers as well as for Indians, then rail and road for within the country travel,’ he added.
‘The third step covers the city-to-city travel which will mostly be done by railway and we would be incorporating all the data from the irctc website. We have discussed with the google team to have an entire travel guide set-up for the user with area-wise distribution done to help him out. This section which has a marked list of registered and unregistered travel agents which will be done on the basis of areas. This aspect is being analysed and worked upon by google officials to see what is technologically suited. After this comes the within city travel guide, which includes sightseeing and digital walk-in tours of the city,’ the official added.
‘Also what is next in line is the details of the buildings within the city. Lastly the ministry will concentrate on the Land of Pi campaign, which focuses on promoting tourism through cinema,’ the official added.
