‘One thing is certain when we travel overseas whether it is South Africa or New Zealand, it is important to start the tour well as it gets you the momentum.
‘Once you miss that, it is difficult to get the momentum back,’ Gambhir, who is part of Rest of India squad that will take on Ranji Trophy champions Karnataka in the Irani Cup match in Bangalore from February 9, said here on the sidelines of an event.
Speaking on India’s disastrous ODI campaign against New Zealand, Gambhir said the Kiwis started by winning the first two games and from there on India was always chasing.
‘You don’t want to get into a situation where you are chasing, you should be ahead of the opposition,’ the veteran of 147 ODIs, said in a media interaction.
