Concerned over wastage of water in daily life and global environmental challenges linked with issues over water table, the central government will hold a seminar under the banner of ‘Jal Manthan’ (churning water) on 20 November.
The three-day seminar, which will end on 22 November, will have general public, people from civil society, experts and policymakers who will share their ideas and action needed to conserve water through optimum utilisation of available resources.
Union water resources, river development and Ganga rejuvenation minister Uma Bharti will inaugurate this mega brainstorming event. Sources said, besides discussing issues on water conservation, the seminar will also highlight the inter-linking of rivers in a big way by devoting a dedicated session on it.
Earlier in July, Bharti’s ministry has organized ‘Ganga rejuvenation’ or ‘Ganga Manthan’ in a similar line where experts related to environmental science and water management shared their views on means and ways to clean and conserve the national river.
The Jal Manthan will be attended by state irrigation ministers, senior officials and other stakeholders from across the country.
In a statement issued by the ministry reads, ‘The focus will be on refining policies of the ministry to make them more people friendly and responsive to the needs of the states.’
The first day of the conference will be centered on three flagship schemes of the central government, which includes, ‘Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme’, ‘Repair, Renovation and Restoration of Water Bodies’ and Flood Management Programme.’
