TMC leader asks party activists to show restraint

Trinamool Congress (TMC) Secretary-General Partha Chatterjee on Saturday asked party activists to be restrained and be prepared to face the big challenge in the crucial time, ahead of Assembly
elections.

“In our effort to reach out to people, everyone should be united. We must take everyone along with us. We should not put the party in embarrassing situation,” Chatterjee told party workers in the South 24 Parganas district.

He asked Trinamool Congress workers not to bring out ‘jatha’ (rally) the same day of the CPI(M) procession “in the respective locality and rather bring it out the next day and thus not give them the
chance.”

Chatterjee, the Education minister, said while during the Left Front regime 32 colleges had come up in the state in the over three-decade long period, 30 colleges were established during the four and half year period of TMC government. Even these included one for women, he added.

Urban Development minister Firhad Hakim said while CPI(M) and Congress were having alliances, Trinamool Congress will never go for any track with those who were responsible for the Nandigram ‘killings’ and Singur  attack.

Abhisek Banerjee, the national President of All India Trinamool Youth Congress, said by the name of taking ‘jathas’ CPI(M) was aiming to capture villages.

State President of Trinamool Congress Subrata Bakshi said people knew the party whose leader went on a fast for 26 days on Singur issue, will always remain on their side.

“We had held 109 administrative meetings in four years time,” Bakshi said.

The leaders were addressing a party workers’ meeting in Canning.
