The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is confident of winning the upcoming municipal polls which <g data-gr-id="31">is</g> scheduled on October 3. Speaking to Millennium Post, a Trinamool Congress MP said, “If they (other parties) can’t fight with us in Bengal, they will never be able to fight well in Bidhannagar, which is a small pocket.”

The four-cornered contest between Trinamool Congress, CPI-M, BJP and Congress will be the last polls before the Assembly elections in April-May next year. The TMC leaders said they were looking <g data-gr-id="36">forward for</g> a full tally in the Bidhannagar and Asansol municipalities, which have 41 and 106 seats respectively. MLA Sujit Bose, MLA Sabyasachi Dutta, and Tapas Chatterjee, a CPI(M) leader who had recently switched over to Trinamool, were leading the campaign for the Trinamool in Bidhan Nagar.

In fact, confident of a big win, the ruling Trinamool Congress suspended four of its members including senior party leader Anupam Datta, who had filed his nomination as an <g data-gr-id="34">Independant</g> candidate from Ward no 41 a few days ago. The other names include <g data-gr-id="35">Manash</g> Dutta, Samir Hajra and Debraj Chakravorty. These four members have been suspended for involvement in anti-party activities.

After being asked what the reason might have been for his eviction from the candidate list, Dutta said, “If they induct men like <g data-gr-id="27">Tapash</g> Chatterjee from the enemy camp, how would senior TMC men get tickets for running in the election?”

The party appears to be intent on giving out a strong signal before the upcoming elections so that no stray actions without the consent of the party superiors would be allowed. Mayor Sovan Chatterjee and party leader Jyotipriyo Mullick campaigned for Trinamool candidates recently. Candidates resorted to door to door campaigning in the <g data-gr-id="33">run up</g> to the big day on Oct 3.

Meanwhile, the CPI-M was also seen gearing up to face the ruling party with continuous campaigning before the elections. Asim Dasgupta, mayoral candidate of the party along with <g data-gr-id="26">Sujan</g> Chakravorty, <g data-gr-id="28">member</g> of <g data-gr-id="29">state</g> secretariat, campaigned before the polls.
