Tibetan protest reaches Hyderabad House

For once, Delhi Police decided to have a benevolent attitude towards Tibetan demonstrators.

On Thursday, they were allowed to go as far as the Hyderabad House in New Delhi, where the summit meeting between Chinese president Xi Jinping and Indian PM Narendra Modi was taking place, to register their protest.

Later, around 35 protesters were detained from outside the Hyderabad House gate and eight were detained from near the Taj Palace hotel, where Jinping is staying. A senior police official said that they were detained because the protesters had no such ‘permission’ and they had marched to the high-security area despite being warned.

While the eight protesters detained (at the Chanakyapuri police station) from near the Taj Palace were Tibetan Boys, all 35 detained (at the Tilak Marg police station) from outside the Hyderabad House were women, said a source.
