The Madhya Pradesh police on Tuesday arrested three students of the school in connection with the alleged suicide attempt by Adarsh Singh due to ragging. The teenager, who is the son of Bihar cooperatives minister Jai Kumar Singh, had attempted to commit suicide on 20 August.
However, the three minor boys as well as the school staffers were later released on bail, a police official said. Earlier on Tuesday, police registered FIRs against the three students and two staffers of Scindia School in Fort here.
‘The FIRs were registered against the minor boys, assistant house master Arpan Soni and house master Parampreet Grewal,’ additional superintendent of police (ASP) Mohammad Yusuf Qureshi said. Fourteen-year-old Adarsh was found in a semi-conscious state in his hostel room at the residential school on 20 August. He was taken to a private hospital for treatment and when his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to New Delhi’s Apollo Hospital.
Taking cognisance of the matter, district collector P Narhari and SSP Santosh Kumar Singh ordered separate probes, especially into the ragging aspect. Police have already recorded the statement of the boys.
‘After recording the statements of the three boys, senior to the victim and from influential families, we found out that Adarsh attempted suicide as the trio used to harass him by asking him to do menial jobs,’ the ASP said.
The trio allegedly forced him to sweep the floor and punished him by asking him to bend down in various positions. They also allegedly beat him up, the police said. The accused students have been expelled and the two staffers have been debarred following the report of a three-member committee constituted by the school soon after the incident, Scindia School principal Samik Ghosh said in a statement.
