Three Nepali citizens have been arrested, for allegedly strangulating to death their fellow countrymen over a property dispute, within 24 hours of committing the crime, police said on Monday.
Twenty-eight-year-old Shiv Raj, 23-year-old Jang Bahadur alias Raju and 43-year-old Dharam Pal - all residents of Kanchanpur district of Mahakali Aanchal in Nepal - were arrested from Anand Vihar ISBT when they were about to board a bus for Nepal, a senior police official said.
According to police, Ram Chander, a citizen of Nepal who been residing in Sector 18 in Noida, had complained on 24 August that the trio had killed his brother Padam Bahadur, who had come to Delhi on 1 8August from his village in Nepal and had been staying with Raju’s sister in Karol bagh.
Next day, the brother-in-law of the complainant informed the complainant that his brother has expired. Hearing this, he came to Delhi and identified the body but since they didn't suspect any foul play, they took the body to their native village in Nepal for the last rites, police said.
Later, Chander came to know that Raju had a personal enmity with his brother over a piece of land which he had bought and in which Raju was also interested in purchasing.
Raju felt humiliated and planned to take revenge on him. Also, the post-mortem report suggested the cause of death due to ‘manual strangulation’.
‘On the night of 18 August, Raju and the other four got drunk and started quarreling with Bahadur. They caught the victim from the back and Dharam Pal hit his head on a wall while Shiv Raj started beating him. Then, they pinned him down and while Raju and Shiv Raj caught hold of him, Dharampal strangled him to death.
They took his wrist watch and mobile phone to avoid identification. The wrist watch and mobile phone of the deceased have been recovered from the house of Shiv Raj,’ said Devesh Chandra Srivastava, ACP, central district.
