A man was shot dead on Friday while on his way to a hospital in Sahibabad by the assailants who had murdered his son a year ago. In a separate incident two senior citizens, mother and son, were found murdered in their home Vijay Nagar in Ghaziabad.

‘The man was shot dead by his rivals who were pressuring him to withdraw the case of murdering his son against them,’ said S S Yadav, S P City Ghaziabad.

According to police, Omvir Singh, 58, was living in hiding as the assailants had tried to kill him two times in last two months, first on 17 January and then on 15 February. But he survived both the attacks.

In the police complaint, his relatives have implicated a Devender Singh and two others in the murder.

This is the second murder in this rivalry; Devender and his friends had already murdered Pawan, son of Omvir Singh in August last year, while he was cultivating his field.

In that case Devender and his three companions were arrested, but two of them were released on bail, recently.

Omvir, a resident of Loni, was living in hiding in Sahibabad. According to eyewitnesses, three assailants came on bike and pumped two bullets in Omvir’s body while he was going to GTB hospital in Delhi in his car. He was rushed to nearby Ambe hospital but was declared brought dead.

Meanwhile, the dead bodies of two senior citizens were recovered from their bungalow in Vijay Nagar hardly 100 metres from the camp office of Ghaziabad police chief.

Girija Devi, 85, and her son S Kumar, 62, were found dead in their home on Friday morning.

‘We rule out loot or robbery but still not clear about the motive behind murder,’ said S S Yadav, S P City Ghaziabad.

The throats of both the deceased were found slit by a sharp object but the valuables and items in the house were intact said police, suspecting a property dispute.

Devi was the wife of a retired BSNL officer. Her son had also retired from the same company.

The incident came to light at 11.30 a.m. on Friday when an employee of a LPG cylinder agency rang their doorbell. When he did not get any response, he informed neighbours, who called the police.

The police found Kumar in a pool of blood in the kitchen. Devi was found dead in her bedroom. Both had their necks slit.
