Three persons have been arrested for allegedly running a fake maid placement agency and duping over 20 people of lakhs of rupees, police said on Monday.
‘Arvind Kamat alias Ganesh, resident of Bihar’s Supaul district, Sukhi Mukhiya alias Pankaj, resident of Bihar’s Madhubani and Shyam Kumar, resident of Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh were arrested following a complaint by a Vasant Vihar based businessman that they cheated him on pretext of providing him a trained maid,’ said Chhaya Sharma, DCP South district.
With the arrest, police claimed to have busted an interstate fake domestic maid placement bureau racket. According to police, the businessman had hired a maid from Anupam Maid bureau after reading an advertisement in a pamphlet. On 12 October, he contacted the mobile numbers and one Ganesh introduced himself as owner of the agency and promised to provide a trained maid for baby care against the annual commission of Rs 18,000 and a monthly salary of Rs 2,500 per month to the maid.
As the complainant was in need of a maid for his twins, so he agreed to pay the same. Two days later, one Pankaj brought him a maid. ‘Pankaj received Rs 8,000 as commission amount and gave him a receipt and an agreement. The victim took maid to his in-laws house at Noida where his wife and children were staying,’ the official said.
The next day she ran away following which the businessman called up Ganesh, who promised to bring her back but that never happened and he filed a complaint. During investigation, police found that the agency addresses were fake but they kept looking for the accused in Kakrola, Mansa Ram Park, Uttam Nagar, Matiala and Om Vihar.
In due course, police got information from an auto rickshaw driver that he had dropped a girl from Matiala to Greater Kailash and he knew the lane from where he took the maid from Matiala.
